Ramlila Function

On  October 15, 2005 at Hindu Temple of Greater Chicago. Description: On the occasion of Dussehra, the Hindu Temple arranged dance ballet on Ramayan. We performed three major items. The first dance described Sri Ram’s childhood by eight students. The interaction between king Dashrath and queen Kaikayee was represented by Jugalbandi between Kathak and Bharatanatyam. Our school also received much appreciation for staging “Lezim” dance, a popular folk dance from Maharashtra. Most people had not seen this dance before and were thrilled to see “Lezim”. Done with a Lezim or a small mallet, it is a fascinating dance performed in the formation of a circle, in twos or fours. It involves a lot of stepping, hopping, bending, squatting, etc. to the perfect timing of the strikes of the Lezim.
